Relation to curriculum Elective module for 6th semester students, focusing on research and innovation. This course provides opportunities
for students to explore applied biology across multiple sectors and develop innovative solutions to real-world problems.
It supports the development of analytical, creative, and entrepreneurial skills in applying biological sciences to
industry, environment, and community needs.
Teaching methods Discussion, brainstorming, Q&A, applied product development in food and energy/environment sectors
Workload 2 x 45 hours per semester, comprising:

✔ 100 minutes lecture and discussion per week
✔ 120 minutes structured tasks per week
✔ 120 minutes independent learning per week

Credit points 2 SKS = 3.34 ECTS (90 hours)
Prerequisites
Module objectives / Intended Learning Outcomes ✔ Through problem-solving strategies, students are able to explain current applications of biology in health,
animal husbandry, and agriculture.

✔ Through project-based learning, students are able to analyze biological applications in freshwater and marine aquaculture.

✔ Through project-based learning, students are able to design innovative biological applications in food, energy,
and environmental sectors.

Content This course explores the application of biological sciences (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology) in developing products
and services to meet human needs, as well as analyzing and solving real-world biological problems.

The main topics of this course are:
➢ Healthcare and livestock management: application of biology in health services and animal husbandry
➢ Agriculture and aquatic systems: crop production, agricultural development, and fisheries/aquaculture
➢ Food, environment, and energy: biological applications in food technology, environmental conservation,
and sustainable energy production
