Relation to curriculum Elective module for 6th semester students. This course focuses on biodiversity and conservation biology, particularly in megabiodiversity regions.
It equips students with conceptual and practical understanding of conservation strategies, ecological values, and sustainability issues.
The course supports students in analyzing environmental challenges and promotes awareness of biodiversity conservation at local, national,
and global levels.
Teaching methods Lecture, inquiry-based learning
Workload 2 x 45 hours per semester, comprising:

✔ 100 minutes lecture and discussion per week
✔ 120 minutes structured tasks per week
✔ 120 minutes independent learning per week

Credit points 2 SKS = 3.34 ECTS (90 hours)
Prerequisites
Module objectives / Intended Learning Outcomes ✔ Students are able to explain key concepts in biodiversity and conservation biology, including conservation approaches, ethics, keystone species, ecological economics, and extinction patterns.
✔ Students are able to analyze threats to biodiversity such as habitat destruction, fragmentation, climate change, overexploitation, and invasive species.
Content The course explores biodiversity concepts and conservation strategies, including:

➢ Extinction and economic value of biodiversity
➢ Threats to biodiversity and extinction causes
➢ Keystone species and natural resource management
➢ Measurement of biodiversity
➢ Overexploitation and environmental degradation
➢ Biodiversity conservation in Indonesia
➢ Policies and regulations on conservation
➢ Community participation in conservation efforts
