Relation to curriculum Elective module for 6th semester students. This course focuses on plant structure and developmental processes,
providing students with an in-depth understanding of reproductive biology and plant growth. It supports students’
competencies in analyzing plant development from cellular to organismal levels, which is essential for both research
and biology education contexts.

Workload 2 x 45 hours per semester, comprising:

Credit points 2 SKS = 3.34 ECTS (90 hours)
Prerequisites
Module objectives / Intended Learning Outcomes ✔ Students are able to understand the structure of flowers and the development of pollen and male gametes accurately.
✔ Students are able to explain the processes of pollination, fertilization, embryo development, and seed and fruit formation.
✔ Students are able to analyze seed dormancy and germination processes, including internal and external controlling factors.
Content This course discusses plant developmental biology, including:

➢ General Structure of Flowers (complete/incomplete, monoecious/dioecious, hermaphroditic)
➢ Development of Pollen Grains and Male Gametes (microsporogenesis stages)
➢ Pollination and Fertilization (including double fertilization)
➢ Embryo Development (polyembryony and adventive embryos)
➢ Seed and Fruit Development (structure and variation)
➢ Dormancy and Germination Processes
➢ Control of Germination (internal and external factors)
