Relation to curriculum This course introduces students to seed plants (phanerogams), focusing on their classification, structural characteristics, reproduction, and evolutionary significance. It supports CPL-1 and CPL-6 by providing foundational knowledge of angiosperms and gymnosperms, which are critical for understanding plant biodiversity, ecology, and practical applications in agriculture and conservation. In alignment with ASIIN’s standards on subject-specific academic depth and scientific integration, the course encourages analytical thinking in systematics and comparative morphology. Students are trained to explore plant taxonomy not only as a scientific discipline but also as a tool for effective biology teaching and environmental awareness.
Teaching methods Lecture, Inquiry approach
Workload 2 x 45 hours per semester, comprising:
✔ 100 minutes lecture and discussion per week
✔ 120 minutes structured tasks per week
✔ 120 minutes independent learning per week
Credit points 2 SKS = 3.34 ECTS (90 hours)

Content This course provides a comprehensive understanding of plant taxonomy, focusing on classification, identification, nomenclature, and herbarium techniques, especially for Spermatophyta.
