Relation to curriculum Compulsory module for 6th semester students. This course introduces the principles of animal ecology, focusing on interactions
between animals and their environment. It supports CPL-2 and CPL-4 by strengthening students’ analytical and practical
competencies in ecological observation and interpretation. The course enhances scientific attitudes, research readiness, and
ecological awareness through contextual and field-based learning activities. It also connects with prior laboratory courses and
prepares students for advanced ecological and physiological studies.
Teaching methods Lecture, group discussion
Workload 2 x 45 hours per semester, comprising:

✔ 100 minutes lecture and discussion per week
✔ 120 minutes structured tasks per week
✔ 120 minutes independent learning per week
Credit points 2 SKS = 3.2 ECTS (90 hours)
Prerequisites –
Module objectives / Intended Learning Outcomes ✔ Students are able to explain the definition of animal ecology, its applications, ecological models, and animal adaptations accurately.
✔ Students are able to analyze animal–habitat interactions, ecological niches, trophic relationships, and animal behavior.
✔ Students are able to describe concepts of population, community, ecosystem, and coevolution in feeding relationships.
✔ Students are able to measure population parameters and propose solutions to human–wildlife conflicts.
Content This course discusses the principles and applications of animal ecology, including interactions between organisms and their
environment, ecological modeling, and field-based observations.

➢ Animal observation (ground animals, nocturnal insects, daily activities, feeding behavior, primate roosting, nocturnal ranges)
➢ Daily activities of birds
➢ Animal tracks
➢ Habitat stratification (soil animals, arboreal animals)
➢ Observation of benthos, nekton, plankton, and neuston
