Relation to curriculum Compulsory module for 6th semester students. This course focuses on the relationships between plants and their habitats
and complements Animal Ecology. It builds on previous coursework in Botany and Morphology, supporting students’ ecological
field competencies (CPL 4 and CPL 6). The course emphasizes data-driven research skills, field observation, and ecological
analysis. Students are trained to interpret vegetation data, understand ecosystem dynamics, and apply ecological concepts
to real-world environmental issues.
Teaching methods Discussion, Q&A, discovery learning
Workload 2 x 45 hours per semester, comprising:

✔ 100 minutes lecture and discussion per week
✔ 120 minutes structured tasks per week
✔ 120 minutes independent learning per week

Credit points 2 SKS = 3.2 ECTS (90 hours)

Content This course discusses ecological relationships of plants within complex environments, including ecosystem dynamics,
species interactions, and vegetation analysis. The main topics include:

➢ Basic concepts of plant ecology and environment
➢ History and development of plant ecology
➢ Species and environmental interactions
➢ Population structure and plant demography
➢ Species interactions (competition, mutualism, etc.)
➢ Ecosystem structure and energy flow
➢ Biogeochemical cycles (N, C, P, water)
➢ Community structure and characteristics
➢ Plant succession and vegetation dynamics
➢ Environmental factors and limiting factors
➢ Productivity in ecosystems
➢ Vegetation types and ecological zones
➢ Terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems
➢ Vegetation analysis methods (quadrate, line, point intercept)
