Relation to curriculum Elective modules for 6th semester students. This course focuses on the role of communication in science and
supports students’ interests in information and communication technology. It equips students with the ability
to convey scientific information effectively and responsibly in various contexts, including education, public
engagement, and policy-making.
Teaching methods Discussion, presentation, and material-based exercises
Workload 2 x 45 hours per semester, comprising:

✔ 100 minutes lecture and discussion per week
✔ 120 minutes structured tasks per week
✔ 120 minutes independent learning per week

Credit points 2 SKS = 3.34 ECTS (90 hours)
Prerequisites
Module objectives / Intended Learning Outcomes ✔ Students are able to explain the definition, objectives, and theories of science communication, including its role in the development of science in Indonesia and data-driven policy-making.
✔ Students are able to analyze challenges in communicating scientific information and propose solutions using appropriate information technology to support sustainable development.
✔ Students demonstrate effective science communication skills and uphold ethical conduct as scientists.
Content This course explores communication theories and their application in science, including:

➢ Fundamental concepts of communication and science communication
➢ Key scientific figures in Indonesia and globally
➢ Challenges in communicating scientific information
➢ Basics of visual communication design and computer graphics
➢ Scientific data visualization and translation
➢ Public attitudes toward science and anti-science movements
➢ The role of science communication in supporting data-driven policies
➢ Skills and ethics required for science communicators
