Relation to curriculum Elective module for 6th semester students. This course focuses on research and innovation in biological sciences,
particularly in histological techniques. It equips students with practical laboratory skills in specimen preparation
and microscopic analysis, supporting their competence in scientific investigation and biology education.
Teaching methods Contextual learning, project-based learning (histological specimen preparation), project presentation
Workload 2 x 45 hours per semester, comprising:

✔ 100 minutes lecture and discussion per week
✔ 120 minutes structured tasks per week
✔ 120 minutes independent learning per week

Credit points 2 SKS = 3.34 ECTS (90 hours)
Prerequisites
Module objectives / Intended Learning Outcomes ✔ Students are able to prepare fixative solutions and perform tissue processing techniques including sampling, trimming, dehydration, clearing, embedding, staining, and mounting accurately.
✔ Students are able to operate a microtome, prepare histological slides, and interpret microscopic observations correctly.
✔ Students are able to analyze experimental results, present findings effectively, and compile scientific reports following proper academic conventions.
Content This course focuses on techniques for preparing microscopic histological slides from biological specimens:

➢ Primary Tissue Processing: Fixation, sampling, trimming, dehydration, clearing, embedding
➢ Secondary Tissue Processing: Sectioning (microtomy), staining, mounting/coating
➢ Histological Analysis: Observation and interpretation of plant and animal tissue slides
