Relation to curriculum Elective modules for 6th semester students. This course supports students’ interests in physiology by providing
foundational knowledge and applied understanding of toxic substances, their effects on living organisms, and
their relevance to environmental and health sciences.
Teaching methods Problem-Based Learning (PBL), lecture, discussion, and demonstration
Workload 2 x 45 hours per semester, comprising:

✔ 100 minutes lecture and discussion per week
✔ 120 minutes structured tasks per week
✔ 120 minutes independent learning per week

Credit points 2 SKS = 3.34 ECTS (90 hours)
Prerequisites
Module objectives / Intended Learning Outcomes ✔ Students are able to analyze the diversity, characteristics, and properties of toxic substances and hazardous materials (B3) in the environment accurately.
✔ Students are able to analyze toxicity testing methods, mechanisms of toxic substances, and their impacts on living organisms through mini-research projects.
✔ Students are able to evaluate toxicity indicators, conduct toxicity tests (LD50 and LC50), and apply probit analysis correctly.
Content This course covers environmental and health toxicology, including:

➢ Diversity and characteristics of toxic substances and hazardous materials (B3)
➢ Mechanisms of toxic substance action in living organisms
➢ Toxicity testing using biological organisms
➢ Toxic effects on organisms and ecosystems
➢ Toxicity indicators and analysis
➢ Fundamentals of toxicity testing (LD50 and LC50)
➢ Probit analysis in toxicology studies
